A message from Glenn Barclay, co-founder of The Blake

First, I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation to our residents, families, and healthcare partners for being tremendously understanding and supportive during this time. I’ve heard from many families and team members and understand that this is a very difficult time. I want to assure you that we’re working daily to stay true to our core values of Safety and Joy. These enduring values guide us as we face the challenge of responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19), which the World Health Organization declared a pandemic on Wednesday. We are consistently following the recommendations and mandates issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Governor’s Office and Louisiana Department of Health. Information is changing daily, and in some cases, hour by hour. Our priority is to do our duty to reduce the risk of the virus entering our community. To date, we do not have any confirmed or presumptive positive cases of this coronavirus (COVID-19).

Our hearts go out to the people who have been directly affected by this unprecedented event and I am amazed by the healthcare workers, local communities, affected patients and families, as well as government representatives who are working on the front line to reduce the spread of this virus and care for those affected. Please know that we are vigilantly monitoring the COVID-19 situation and are carefully implementing and maintaining precautions to promote a healthy and safe community for our residents, families, service partners and team members.

The CDC has issued new recommendations for senior living communities to protect residents from COVID-19. Based on these recommendations, we will be canceling communal dining and group activities until further notice and implementing routine screenings of each resident in our community. Our previous screening and limited visitation protocols will remain in place until further notice.

We will begin serving all meals to residents in their individual apartments. Rest assured, residents will still have access to the same chef-prepared menu options within the comfort of their apartments and meal delivery charges will be waived.

We understand many of you may be feeling isolated as public health officials encourage us to distance ourselves from others. Our commitment to keeping residents engaged and connected with their families remains steadfast. We encourage you to continue to find ways to connect with your loved ones. We know that emotional wellness is as important as physical well-being. We will be using social media technologies, skype, handwritten notes and various other creative activities to create moments of joy and keep residents actively engaged. Families of residents who need assistance with video chat can contact our concierge or director of activities. In taking precautions to keep your family safe and healthy, we encourage you to take a moment for yourself.

If you have questions related to how The Blake is protecting our community from COVID-19, please contact your community’s Executive Director. Our mission of serving others is more important now than ever. We appreciate your continued understanding and support of our efforts to maintain a healthy community.
