Gayle Cox, RN
Our Executive Director, Gayle Cox, has been a Registered Nurse for over 15 years. She first worked with pediatrics and then transitioned to senior communities, becoming a Director of Nursing at a Skilled Nursing facility as well as Director of Wellness at several Assisted Living communities. She joined The Blake at Charlottesville in 2019 as the Director of Wellness and was promoted in 2020 to Executive Director. Gayle grew up in New Jersey but has lived in Virginia for over 25 years and considers Virginia her home. She has 5 children and 2 grandsons (so far)! Gayle loves working in senior communities, especially because of the wealth of knowledge seniors have and impart on a daily basis. When Gayle’s not working, she loves seeing her children and grandchildren. She is active with her church and enjoys Bible studies.
Director of Sales
Helping seniors through the transition of leaving their homes for a more social and engaged way of living is very rewarding to me. I truly believe that the support and care in a community creates a better life for seniors.
Bridget Archer serves as Director of Sales at The Blake. She has worked in healthcare for the past 18 years with a focus on senior living. Her experience has included Director of Sales for several assisted living, memory care, independent living and skilled nursing communities. Her background also includes a position as a Pychometrian for Alzheimer’s drug study trials. In her spare time, she hikes with her Australian Shepherd, and enjoys the outdoors and time with family.
Director of Wellness
Amber Johnson started at The Blake in 2019 as a staff nurse and was promoted in 2021 to Director of Wellness. Amber worked as a CNA for 8 years prior to becoming a LPN and has over 12 years of skilled nursing experience in senior communities. She is well respected by her teammates and residents alike. Amber takes pride in her work and always goes the extra mile. She enjoys sharing her vast nursing knowledge with the team and always looks for new ways to ensure our residents our experiencing the very best at The Blake. Amber grew up in Northern Virginia before settling with her husband and five children in the Central Virginia area. She loves spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, Amber likes to shop, travel and go camping.
Melissa “Missy” Townes
Assistant Director of Wellness
Melissa “Missy” Townes began as a staff nurse for The Blake at Charlottesville in September 2020, where her nursing skills and sincere love for the residents and their families was immediately and continually noticed. She has since been promoted to Assistant Director of Wellness. Missy is a Charlottesville native and veteran of the United States Army. After serving her country, Missy attended the Richmond School of Health and Technology, where she earned a nursing degree and has been an LPN for 16 years. She is married to the love of her life with 4 amazing children. In her spare time, Missy loves to spend time with her family, enjoying camping, fishing, swimming, and keeping her marksmen skills “up to par” at the range.
Director of Business Operations
Sheri York serves as the Director of Business Operations for The Blake at Charlottesville. Originally from New Hampshire, Sheri made her move to the Charlottesville area in August of 2018. She has fifteen years of experience as a Deputy Finance Officer in Municipal Government. She ventured on a new journey when her heart pulled her to senior living. Sheri loves getting to know the residents, hearing about their lives, and learning from their experiences. When asked about her favorite part of working for The Blake, she says, “I love working at The Blake. It is such a positive work environment. Everyone is respected and valued. We have the best employees and leaders.” As a mother of five and grandma to three granddaughters, Sheri enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.
Walk With Me Coordinator
Melissa has over 15 years of experience in healthcare and has worked extensively with those living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She is a woman of action and takes pride in not only her work, but in the health and happiness of her residents. She not only served as a CNA, but has several years of experience planning, leading, and orchestrating quality, life-enhancing activities. Melissa lives in Shenandoah, VA with her husband and two children. She loves being with her family and supporting them, cheering her children on at their school and sporting events. She also enjoys camping, shopping, and celebrating life with her friends. Wherever Melissa goes, she brings joy right along! She is so excited to help The Blake residents partake and participate in her personal hobbies and interest and create opportunities for them to live their best life.
Director of Activities
Kelsie Short experienced the true importance of a robust Activities Department during her grandmother’s own battle of Dementia, leading to her own personal passion for activities. She has worked within the healthcare field for 8 years in the areas of direct clinical care and therapeutics. She is a licensed Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, as well as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Kelsie received a bachelor’s degree from Radford University in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and a Minor in Psychology. Kelsie recently achieved a master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences at Liberty University in the area of Developmental Psychology. Kelsie was born and raised in Greene County, Virginia, where she continues to make her home. When Kelsie is not busy planning activities, she enjoys spending time with her family and participating in outdoor activities.
