1/5/21 Vaccination Update from our CEO

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have come together as Blake residents, family members, and team members to protect our community, ourselves, our loved ones, and our neighbors. With the imminent delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine, we now have the opportunity to save lives and turn the page on this virus.

Our Blake communities are working with Walgreens & CVS who will administer the vaccine in a series of clinics at our community. We continue to maintain contact with our representatives at Walgreens and CVS and are actively preparing our processes. We expect to have news to share on the dates for our upcoming clinics very soon.

As with any medication or vaccine, it’s natural to have some apprehension over the safety and effectiveness. It’s important to have the facts before deciding to put anything in our bodies. Thanks to scientific advances over the last few decades and global cooperation, these vaccines were produced and tested in record time. Rest assured that no critical steps were skipped. All vaccines approved by the FDA were tested in clinical trials involving tens of thousands of people to make sure they meet safety standards and protect adults of different races, ethnicities, and ages, including older adults over the age of 65. Furthermore, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine have exceeded expectations for efficacy with 95% and 94.5% reduction in instances of COVID-19 among those vaccinated.

As respected older adults and caregivers on the front line, we have been given the unprecedented privilege of being prioritized to receive this vaccine. Personally, I look forward to taking the COVID-19 vaccine at my first opportunity. I will be taking the vaccine to protect myself, my family, our Blake team members, and the residents in our care.

Included with this letter are several documents outlining facts and frequently asked questions about the vaccine. I encourage you to read them carefully, consider what’s best for you, your loved ones and the community. Please contact your Executive Director if you have questions or concerns.

We recognize that 2020 was an extremely challenging year and we are excited and hopeful at the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We hope you will join us. Thank you for your tireless commitment and support of our efforts to maintain the health and safety of our community.
